5 ACTUAL Super Foods (Hint: Agave Isn’t 1 of Them)

If you look hard enough, you can come up with something “super” about any food. But, what you should really be looking at, is whether all those benefits make up for the drawbacks.

For instance, you could say soy is high in protein, or wheat is high in fiber, but does that mean they’re good choices?

The government food goons and Monsanto minions may have you believing so, but what are the negatives?

Well, when it comes to wheat and soy, there’s plenty! And as I’ve illustrated in the past (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), the promoted pros don’t outweigh the consistent cons. Whether they’re whole, natural, soaked, sprouted, certified organic, artisan, raw, GMO and isoflavone free, or hand-delivered by the Dalai Lama.

In 1992, the Swiss Health Service estimated that 2 cups of soy milk per day provides the estrogenic equivalent of 1 birth control pill.  And infants fed soy formula, the equivalent of 5!

Not surprisingly, it’s a similar story with most of the so-called superfoods – that unfortunately continue to pop up in magazines on a monthly basis…and Dr. Oz episodes on a DAILY basis!

But what’s more unfortunate, is that men and women across the globe immediately flock to health food stores to buy cases of the stuff. Many times thinking it will help them lose weight with no adjustment to any other part of their diet and lifestyle. Only to realize that it’s destroying their health and body composition, because there were 10 times as many downsides as upsides.

Or better yet, there was nothing “super” about it in the first place! With Agave Nectar – aka VERY high-fructose corn syrup – being the perfect example.

“Agave nectar is a whopping 90 percent fructose, almost — but not quite — twice as high as HFCS.” – Dr. Jonny Bowden

Realistically, there’s no such thing as a superfood.   Especially when someone refuses to make changes to their current nutrition, fitness and lifestyle habits.

BUT! These 5 foods come pretty darn close:

  1. Coconut Oil
  2. Bone Broth
  3. Organ Meats (Liver)
  4. Vinegar
  5. Fermented Foods (Kefir)

….just don’t go buying 10 cases and consuming nothing else for 6 weeks.

Stay Lean!
